    Spicer Consulting — SC22 Magnetic Field Cancelling System

    Reduces the ambient AC field and restores the resolution and accuracy of electron beam tools !! A friendly aid to scanning electron  microscopes (SEM) / transmission electron microscopes (TEM) performance.

    The SC22 system comprises a Magnetic Field Control Unit, an AC Magnetic Field Sensor and three orthogonal multicore cables, which are installed in the room where the field is to be cancelled. The SC22 can drive single loop and double loop room size cables. It also works with Helmholtz cables that are attached to a frame around the column. Each power amplifier in the control unit drives a current through its cable to create a field of the opposite sign to the change in ambient field. The magnetic field sensor measures the resulting field and real time negative feedback reduces the ambient field by the loop gain of the system. The system is dynamic, automatically responding to field changes within 100 µs. AC Line fields (50/60 Hz) are reduced by 50 x.

    When the ambient field changes, the electron beam of  the scanning electron  microscope (SEM) / transmission electron microscopes (TEM) is deflected, causing loss of resolution and image distortion. The SC24 system stabilises the field by dynamically creating nearly equal and opposite field changes !!

    The SC24 system comprises a magnetic field control unit, one or two magnetic field sensors and three orthogonal axis multicore cables, that are installed in the room where the field is to be cancelled. The SC24 can drive single loop and double loop room size cables. It also works with Helmholtz cables that are attached to a frame around the column.  Three power amplifiers in the control unit drive  currents through the cables to create a field of the opposite sign to the change in ambient field.  The magnetic field sensor measures the resulting field and real time negative feedback reduces the ambient field by the loop gain of the system.     Spicer Consulting — SC26 Magnetic Field Cancelling System

    When large size 300mm wafers are transported, 9KHz field noise are inevitably generated by the robot transporters. The ambient field in the surrounding can change the electron beam of  the scanning electron  microscope (SEM) / transmission electron microscopes (TEM) so much so that the resolution of images will be greatly distorted. The SC26 system is specially designed to neutralize the field and most applicable to CD SEM application.

    The SC26 has inputs for two 200 kHz AC field sensors (blue) that it can mix to optimise the electron beam tool performance. These provide useful cancelling down to 10 Hz.Cancelling can be extended down to DC by adding a “Sensor SC24/DC+AC” and a sensor combiner for each input channel used.  The SC26 is an enhanced replacement for the SC20Fast system, which has an installed base of over 200 units in wafer fabs world wide. The principle of operation of the SC26 is similar to our other field cancelling systems. The field cancelling method is wide-band analogue negative feedback. An embedded microcomputer controls the system and digitises the fields for measurement but is not within the feedback loop.
